We all know that high-power laser diodes are common in daily life, so do you know what their main functions are? Where can it be mainly used? Let me give you a brief introduction.
The most typical application of high power laser diode is welding and cutting. Especially in the fields of automobile manufacturing, sheet metal processing and 3C electronic assembly, laser welding has gradually replaced traditional electric welding. Its advantages are obvious: small solder joint, high precision, small heat affected zone and high efficiency.
Another example is the laser pumping system. Many solid-state lasers or fiber lasers actually rely on high-power laser diodes. Simply put, diodes provide energy, and laser crystals or optical fibers "transform" this energy into another higher power and finer laser output. The advantages of this structure are high efficiency, small size and good energy utilization.
There is another application direction that is easily overlooked: laser illumination and detection. For example, in night vision assistance, LiDAR and infrared imaging, high-power laser diodes can provide long-distance light sources. Many 3D laser radars for auto-driving use high-power pulsed laser diodes of 905nm or 1550nm. It can quickly send out strong light pulses, and then calculate the distance through reflection to achieve accurate ranging. The core competitiveness of this technology lies in the high laser energy and fast response.
High-power laser diode can take root in so many fields, the key is that it gives consideration to "strength" and "stability". It doesn't waste as much energy as traditional high-power lamps, nor is it as heavy and difficult to maintain as solid-state lasers. As long as the heat dissipation design is reasonable and the driving current is controlled in place, it can work stably for thousands of hours without attenuation.
